The Lauderdale County Government Complex in Meridian, Mississippi, marks a significant milestone in the region’s history. Designed by LPK Architects and built on the site of the former Village Fair Mall, this $50-million project replaced the county’s 200-year-old courthouse. The renovated complex combines modern aesthetics with state-of-the-art security and functionality.

Railing System: Kubit™ and Optik™ Shoe
Location: Lauderdale, MS.
Architect: LPK Architects

In addition to bulletproof glazing and Kevlar-lined judges’ benches, the complex features private and public areas separated by security zones. Furthermore, it incorporates pandemic-conscious designs, such as sealed glass barriers. This government complex needed railing systems that integrated seamlessly with the glass enhancements, providing safety, modernity, and minimal visual obstruction. Moreover, the solution needed to meet structural integrity and design standards.

Seamless Simplicity, Secure Sophistication

For the staircase, a railing system with sculptural simplicity seamlessly complemented the clean lines of structural glass. The upper-level glass railing system needed to deliver a floating appearance while upholding rigorous safety standards to fully realize the architects’ vision.

Using stainless steel and innovative glass channel technology, such a system could balance safety with a sleek, unobtrusive design. In similar projects, the combination of premium materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and engineering precision has resulted in cohesive architectural statements that elevate both form and function.

For this project, such expertise was brought to bear with the Kubit™ and Optik™ Shoe systems by HDI Railing Systems, seamlessly integrating functionality with the building’s contemporary design goals.

Minimalist Elegance with Kubit™ Railings

This government complex’s lobby staircase features the minimalist Kubit™ railing system. The clean lines of Kubit™ provide structural integrity while complementing the modern design of the lobby, becoming a key visual and functional element.

At the top of the staircase, HDI’s Optik™ Shoe system seamlessly integrates with Kubit™ to frame the second-story atrium and balconies. The Optik™ Shoe system provides an unobtrusive, floating glass appearance, enhancing visibility and openness while maintaining safety.

LED lighting was installed on the building’s exterior railings to enhance visibility and improve safety in low-light conditions.

This addition reinforces the building’s commitment to security and functionality, ensuring well-lit access points and pathways for users.

HDI Railing Systems provided secure, functional railings for the Lauderdale County Government Complex, seamlessly integrating Kubit™, Optik™ Shoe, and LED lighting to enhance safety and modern design.
