In 2010, the McPherson Board of Public Utilities (BPU) chose HDI Railing Systems to install a Ferric™ railing system in their facility. Now, 14 years later, that same railing system remains in immaculate condition, proving its durability, strength, and quality. When BPU needed to enclose the underside of their staircase, they returned to HDI to expand the system, ensuring a seamless, intentional update.

A mismatched addition would have disrupted the space, making it feel disjointed. Instead of installing an entirely new system, they sought a precise, well-integrated solution that preserved both the visual continuity and long-term durability of the existing railings.

HDI responded by delivering a custom-built Ferric™ railing system designed to match the original installation flawlessly. The new addition featured the same flat black powder-coated A36 carbon steel posts and 304 stainless steel handrails with a 240-grain finish. Every detail aligned perfectly, from the color consistency to the hardware integration, ensuring the expansion felt intentional rather than tacked on.

Beyond its durability, HDI’s railing system proved highly adaptable. For this project, the design incorporated ½” clear tempered glass infill, providing both safety and an open appearance. Additionally, the system accommodated extra-long posts and glass panels, demonstrating HDI’s ability to tailor solutions to specific design needs. By using advanced engineering and high-quality materials, HDI ensured that the updated railing met the project’s evolving requirements while preserving its original elegance.

Even after 14 years, HDI’s Ferric™ railing system at McPherson BPU continues to deliver strength, durability, and visual appeal. The new section seamlessly integrates with the original, proving HDI railings stand the test of time. Rather than replacing the system, BPU expanded it, reinforcing its lasting value and reliability.
