The amphitheater at Fond du Lac Tribal Community College serves as a central communal space for educational, cultural, and community events. Primarily, the renovation aimed to improve seating, safety, and aesthetics. At the same time, the architects honored existing structural elements and materials. Consequently, DSGW Architects designed the renovation to integrate seamlessly with the amphitheater’s original features, reflecting the college’s cultural and community-centric values.

Architectural Vision & Design Goals

DSGW Architects sought to enhance community engagement by upgrading the amphitheater’s safety, accessibility, and visual appeal. Crucially, this involved selecting durable and visually harmonious materials.

Additionally, these materials complement existing oak structural elements and acoustic panels, helping maintain the amphitheater’s welcoming environment.

HDI’s Contribution

HDI Railings provided a tailored Ferric railing solution featuring side-mounted, powder-coated steel posts. Furthermore, these posts combine with high-quality clear tempered laminated glass and custom film installed on the panels.

Additionally, the panels added visual warmth and design coherence, aligning aesthetically with existing oak structural components and terrazzo flooring. Moreover, the custom-built 2″ diameter red oak top and assist handrails included precise switchbacks at staircase bottoms.

This detail highlights HDI’s capability for craftsmanship and customization. Importantly, the railing installation adhered specifically to the IBC 2018 code, ensuring compliance with current safety standards.

Custom Infill Panels: Custom wood framing and frosted Birch pattern film were integrated into the infill panels.

Specifically, these panels aligned precisely with the architect’s vision, enhancing the amphitheater’s warmth and aesthetic appeal. Moreover, they were segmented carefully and installed around curved sections, providing distinctive, natural elegance to the space.

Durability & Maintenance: Powder-coated steel posts were chosen for their strength, durability, and ease of maintenance. Thus, they are perfectly suited for high-use community areas.

Coordination & Precision: The railing system required careful collaboration with multiple contractors and specialty vendors. Consequently, this highlighted HDI’s project management expertise and precision installation capabilities.
