A significant addition to Chicago’s iconic skyline is 110 North Wacker, also known as the Bank of America Tower. Completed in 2020, this skyscraper exudes modern design and engineering. Working in collaboration with Glass Solutions and Garnett Architects, HDI Railings aimed to deliver a solution that was functional and seamlessly adaptable to the building’s sleek design.

Railing System: Optik Shoe™
Location: Chicago, IL
Architect: Garnett Architects
Contractor: Glass Solutions, Inc.

Advanced 3D Precision

Garnett Architects sought a railing system to complement the building’s modern design while ensuring safety and panoramic views. The Optik™ Shoe glass railing system, known for its minimalist and sophisticated appearance, was chosen to meet these needs. To ensure meticulous and accurate installation, HDI Railings implemented advanced 3D laser scanning technology.

Precision Meets Design Integrity

Davin Pirkola of Garnett Architects shared his insights on the process: “During the shop drawings process, HDI built the stair and railings using 3D modeling and was able to recommend optimal joint locations to maximize the size of the glass panels and minimize joints. This constructive feedback during the review process not only preserved the design integrity of the stair but also kept costs aligned with the budget and maintained necessary code requirements.”

For projects requiring detailed customization and 3D laser scanning precision, HDI Railings is your trusted expert. Trust HDI for matchless precision, uninhibited design, and peace of mind.

Scott Heidemann from Glass Solutions commented on the project’s complexity and the outcome, stating, “HDI was able to provide a truly one-of-a-kind custom radius handrail. This project had multiple radius bent shoes, top caps, and radius and raked glass panels. The result was breathtaking.”

The system’s elegant design and unobstructed views have been well-received, aligning perfectly with the building’s modern and refined ambiance. Scott Heidemann also added, “I would recommend HDI railings for all of my handrail needs. Their response time, attention to detail, packaging, and care of the materials was excellent. They truly made a difficult project a lot easier.”

Davin Pirkola further noted, “HDI was an integral part of the team, and I would certainly recommend the railing system to others with confidence.” The Optik™ Shoe system not only met the client’s requirements but also set a new standard for modern railing design, further establishing HDI Railings as a leader in the industry.
