A major university, just outside of Philadelphia, recently completed a renovation of one of its most active and visible student centers. As part of the update, the project required a railing system that maintained openness and met safety requirements. Furthermore, it had to complement the surrounding architecture.

HDI was selected to design, engineer, and manufacture a complete railing solution. This solution aligned with the project’s design intent while supporting the demands of daily campus use.
Designed for Clarity, Installed with Care
The CIRCUM™ round railing system was installed using Type 304 stainless steel with a 240-grain brushed finish. It was paired with laminated clear tempered glass at both upper and lower levels.
As a result, this combination delivered transparency and visual continuity.
At one stair location, HDI engineered a curved stainless steel picket infill to match the stair’s geometry. The scope also included removable railing sections and a glass gate at an exterior terrace, providing flexibility while preserving a cohesive aesthetic throughout the space.
Aligned Scheduling, Seamless Integration
HDI worked closely with the project team to coordinate detailing, site measurements, and delivery schedules. Post conditions varied across the project, including installations into concrete and wood curbs, yet each section was fabricated to ensure clean alignment and a precise fit.
Delivery timing was carefully coordinated with on-site progress so installation could proceed without interruption.
Each railing component—posts, glass panels, and curved sections—arrived ready to install and was placed with consistency and care.

The completed railing system now supports safe circulation throughout the building while enhancing the overall architectural experience.
