WKU Press Box Features Optik™ Glass

Western Kentucky University’s newest additions—the Hilltopper Fieldhouse and Press Box—bring a modern upgrade to a historic stadium. The 15,300 sq ft press box provides panoramic views of Hilltopper football games and houses broadcast booths, coaches’ boxes, media seating, and game operations.

The design required a railing system that could preserve those open views, meet safety codes, and endure long-term use.

Seamless Clarity, Custom Integration

Optik™ Shoe is a post-free railing system that uses a continuous aluminum channel to secure structural glass. The result is a seamless, floating-glass effect that creates a clear line of sight from the interior to the field.

To meet specific project requirements, HDI designed, engineered, and manufactured custom countertop brackets that aligned with the architect’s vision.

These brackets were developed to integrate directly into the countertop without disrupting finishes, structure, or viewing angles—preserving the open feel of the press level while delivering a secure, polished edge.

Stadium environments demand more from railing systems. Optik™ Shoe rises to the challenge with corrosion-resistant materials, code-compliant strength, and a proprietary internal glass locking system that keeps each panel securely in place without visible hardware.
