Healthcare remains one of the most important — and most reliable — careers in the modern world. People will always require skilled, compassionate medical care. With new medical technologies and techniques emerging at a rapid rate, the need to educate the next generation of healthcare employees is greater than ever before.
To meet that need, Rock Valley College, a two year university in Illinois, opened a state-of-the-art Health Sciences Center. The new facility comes equipped with seven 40-seat classrooms and complete integration with 21st century teaching technology.
With an educational focus on nursing, dental hygiene, and respiratory care, Rock Valley College expected to attract an even larger student body. Working with McClellan Blakemore Architects, the college stakeholders wanted to create an space to comfortably accommodate their large classes — as well project a 21st century atmosphere.
To create the modern décor for the Rock Valley College Health Sciences Center, McClellan Blakemore Architects incorporated one-of-a-kind touches throughout the entire design. One of those touches, located throughout interior hallways, was a deliberate stylistic gap between the foundation walls and the floor.
Bordering that gap, the architects planned for an equally stylish handrail to protect the students who would travel these hallways. The architect chose HDI’s Koto railing system.
The sleek, all-stainless steel Koto enhanced an already modern design of the Rock Valley College Health Sciences Center. The steel of the post mounts and infill matched the slate grey of the walls and floor. The trademark Koto cable infill provided a feel of openness to the hallways.
Beyond providing the custom railing system to fit the client’s needs, HDI also guaranteed that the installation went according to design. An HDI installer visited the construction site to provide insight and guidance to ensure the railing system installation went smoothly.
Both the architect and the client were impressed with their Koto railing system — and the relationship with HDI.
When students return for the fall semester, and subsequent semesters after that one, they will enjoy receiving a modern education in a state-of-art campus.
