A recent HDI installation extends the patient centered design at Lee Health’s new Coconut Point medical campus. Located in Lee County’s village of Estero, the 163,500-square-foot medical facility is situated on a sprawling 33-acre site and houses multiple specialty practices to provide care for the South Lee County community.

Lee Health – Coconut Point is a $140 million medical campus featuring a 24-hour emergency room, surgery center, imaging services, and advanced rehabilitation technology. Lee Health turned to Flad Architects because they are known to create environments that enhance human potential. Flad architects consulted with HDI Railings to specify and install a railing system that would support their design intentions. The Kubit Railing system with low-iron glass was selected to highlight the building’s open and elegant aesthetic. Kubit’s railing systems are based on a singular rectangular profile used throughout the system, ensuring a coordinated minimalist design.

Mechanical connections hidden from view ensure a design that is as practical and functional as it is elegant.

Flad Architects applauded the accuracy of the installation on the curved stair spiraling up from the atrium, “The posts were installed first, which helped set the expectation for the other trades to follow the quality and accuracy of install,” said Pat Moffett of Flad Architects. Due to the complexity of the curved glass infill, HDI laser scanned the installation to ensure accurate measurements.

All railings are fully assembled in HDI’s factory and deconstructed into the largest assembled sections for practical shipping and to ensure the quickest, time-efficient installation.

From the spiral staircase the Kubit Railing System is installed along the second story openings which overlook the lower atrium area. The low-iron glass infill allows natural light to pass through with remarkable clarity creating a space that feels bright and boundless. “In combination with the glass and continuous railing, the space flows wonderfully up the stairs and around the second story openings, which the elegant look of the railing system helps to highlight,Moffett of Flad Architects said.

Coconut Point’s multispecialty facility is set to exceed 30,000 Emergency Room visitors per year. It’s safe to say that HDI Railing’s Kubit system will provide superb holding power for the heavy foot traffic from E.R visitors and the 200 plus Lee Health medical staff. “Everything is positioned for better care for patients in the surrounding South Lee County community. It’s a unique facility designed around patients for patients,” said Lee Health President and CEO Larry Antonucci.
